Keynote - Lee Smith

Lee Smith is the author of 17 works of fiction including Fair and Tender Ladies, Oral History, Family Linen and Guests on Earth.  She has received many awards including the North Carolina Award for Literature and an Academy Award in Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters; her novel The Last Girls was a New York Times bestseller as well as winner of the Southern Book Critics Circle Award.  Dimestore, A Writer’s Life, a collection of personal essays, was published in March 2016.

Cal Shepard - NC State Librarian

Cal Shepard picCal Shepard is the state librarian of North Carolina. Before coming to Cultural Resources, Shepard was program director of consulting services and regional director for the Southeast at LYRASIS. From 1999 to 2006, she managed the educational services program at SOLINET. Before joining SOLINET, Shepard served as chief of library development at the State Library of North Carolina and held positions at the Forsyth County Public Library in Winston-Salem and the Nantahala Regional Library in Murphy.

Shepard holds a M.S. in library science from UNC-Chapel Hill and a B.A. in anthropology from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She is active in the American Library Association, the Learning Roundtable, and currently chairs the Allied Professional Association’s Certification Review Committee.

Rob Ross - NC LIVE

rob ross picRob joined NC LIVE as Executive Director in September 2015. Prior to NC LIVE, Rob worked at OCLC, a global library cooperative, where he led the team responsible for working with member libraries to successfully implement new technologies, redesign library workflows and measure ROI.

Rob has presented at IFLA, ALA, Internet Librarian, and the Charleston Conference.
